About Me
In 1996, I came across an opportunity to work as a veterinary assistant at an animal sanctuary that was too tempting to pass up. That decision launched a three-decade career in nonprofit leadership, including roles at three high-impact organizations with staffs ranging from two to more than 400, budgets from several hundred thousand to tens of millions, and scope spanning local, regional, and global work.
Alongside my official animal welfare roles, there were also dozens of foster cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, and one piglet. Life has never been dull in the Green household.
I went into this work for the animals, but the people quickly became my passion. As a leader, what I’ve found is that, when we take care of people, they can take care of the mission.
I also love solving puzzles, and with all of the moving parts in nonprofit and animal welfare organizations, I’ve never been at a loss for things to do.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication and a certificate in conflict resolution and mediation from Marylhurst University. I’m a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (CAWA), Fear Free Shelter Certified, and Bronze REDI-Certified.
After stepping away from the Executive Director role at Cat Adoption Team in 2025, consulting became the natural next chapter — a way to keep supporting mission-driven organizations while helping care for my aging parents.
I live in Portland, Oregon, with my sister, two niblings, three dogs, one naked cat, and an assortment of fish and snails. I spend my non-working time with family, friends, animals, books, plants, and jigsaw puzzles.

About How I Work
Thoughtful solutions, built for real-world implementation
I don’t bring pre-packaged solutions, and I don’t believe in quick fixes. I focus on helping you clarify your needs and develop solutions that are strategic, well-supported, and ready to be implemented successfully.
How I work with clients
I take the time to understand the real challenges you’re facing, the context you’re operating in, and what success would look like.
I adapt my role to each client’s needs—coaching, strategic partnership, training, facilitation, or help with implementation or work duties. Engagements may be short-term and focused or longer-term partnerships that evolve over time.
I believe in the power of feedback, and I’ll check in with you along the way to see if we need to make adjustments to the way we’re working together.
Logistics
We start with a free 45-minute consultation to explore whether I’m a good fit for your situation. If it seems promising, I’ll prepare a proposal outlining the scope and terms of the work. Once we’ve agreed on the plan, we get started.
I’m based in Portland, Oregon. Most of my work is done remotely, but I enjoy meeting with clients in person when geography or travel makes that possible.
About the Photos on This Site
With the exception of the personal photos, all of the photos on this site are from natural areas of Utah and Oregon, the beautiful states in which I’ve spent nearly my entire life. Rocks, trees, other plants, and water offer perfect metaphors for qualities of mission-centered organizations I admire and work to strengthen, like resilience, growth, and reinvention. Plus, they’re much more pleasant to look at than stock photos of people talking to each other and pointing at paper.
